As a medical doctor, I am blessed to be able to reduce pain and treat disease. As a health coach, I help prevent them from happening in the first place.

Ever since I graduated medical school in 2008 my main goal was to help my patients live a long and enjoyable life. That desire is what drove me to work hard throughout my many clinical years in the field of general surgery and earn my Membership to the Royal College Of Surgeons in 2014.

All doctors, I’m sure, have the same wishes for their patients. We study hard so that on graduation day, we would be filled with valuable knowledge that can help us help others live their healthiest lives.

Unfortunately, that knowledge does not include how to adequately change someone’s behavior and inspire lifestyle modifications.

And, even if we were lucky enough to be taught a little bit about this, it’s been said that the average doctor will spend just about 12 minutes with each patient in the clinic. Behavioral change is hard and that’s hardly enough time. Behavioral change remains a vastly untapped resource in helping our patients get better. Therefore, despite our best efforts, we battle with the growing epidemic of obesity, heart disease, degenerative arthritis and other preventable conditions that have resulted from our sedentary lives and high-calorie diets.

Billions of dollars are being piped into the development and manufacture of newer drugs. And yet, the prevalence rates of chronic illnesses are rising. Scholarly research has even stated that for the first time in many generations, our children may have a shorter life expectancy than us!

It’s not working. Prescribing more and more drugs is just not the right answer.

Medications and surgery do have their place in healthcare. But, let’s face it. In many instances, proper healthcare starts with self-care. Medicine might be helpful for the sick but food is what cares for the healthy. As the Chinese proverb goes, “He who takes medicine and neglects to diet wastes the skills of his doctors.” But, how could I counsel my patients properly when I was hardly taught anything about proper nutrition in medical school?

This is why I turned to health coaching

During my training at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, I studied with some of the world’s leading health and wellness authorities including:

  • Joshua Rosenthal, MScEd, founder and director of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition
  • David Katz, MD, MPH, Authority on Preventive Medicine and Weight Management, Director of the Yale Prevention Research Center
  • Walter Willett, MD, DrPH, Chair of the Department of Nutrition at Harvard’s School of Public Health
  • Mark Hyman, MD, Founder and Medical Director of The Ultra Wellness Center

I delved into the nitty-gritty of over 100 different dietary theories; From Ayurveda to Gluten-free, Vegan to Macrobiotics, Paleo and everything in between. By understanding so many diet programs, I am able to pinpoint aspects of each that would work best for my client.

Because YOU are unique and your diet should be too!

I offer bespoke programs that incorporate the power of nutrigenomics. This field of clinical nutrition maps out your specific DNA in relation to optimal food digestion, taking out the guesswork that comes with other diet programs. Imagine the power of knowing whether your body prefers energy in the form of carbohydrates or fat, whether you can properly digest dairy, how much caffeine is too much for you or whether you inherited a predisposition for needing more omega-3. This pivotal advancement in clinical nutrition allows you to achieve your goals in a much more targeted way. With your nutrigenomics report, you can get a jumpstart on that all important lifestyle modification and we can get started on the right track, right away.

I focus on fueling the body with delicious, nutrient-dense foods that prevent and help treat disease, boost metabolism and aid to release excess weight – and keep it off! As a health coach, I also strive to help my clients bring balance to other aspects of their life that may be affecting their eating habits.

By combining my medical expertise with the most up-to-date research in holistic nutrition for preventive medicine, I now work with clients to choose health-promoting ways that produce REAL AND LASTING RESULTS.

No bouncing from diet to diet. No calorie counting.

Just a deeper understanding of food and lifestyle choices that work best for you.
